These items are thank you gifts for members donating a day or some hours to the CAFDI time bank. The items are in limited supply and are stored at a top-secret location in Southern Cal., so please contact CAFDI VP Phil Terrazas to cut a deal on one of these quality items before they are gone. Background on the CAFDI Time-Bank
The time-bank is used by the CAFDI board for purposes that serve all CAFDI members interests. This service can be, but is not limited to, any of the following:
- Participating in meetings or other activities directly related to acquiring salary increases for CAFDI members (hearings and meetings with legislators at the Capitol for example)
- Participating in activities that directly contribute to and assist CSLEA’s efforts to acquire increases in CAFDI members benefits and salaries
- Time spent interacting and negotiating on CAFDI member’s behalf with FDB management and Admin. to improve working conditions
- Time spent representing any individual CAFDI member with legal defense or adverse action defense issues
- Any other critical services for any CAFDI member, as a need may arise, that must be done during working weekday hou
CAFDI time bank hours are not hours used for personal use, recreation, or other non-CAFDI business activities. We have a strict policy about this. No postcards from Mazatlan on your dime! Seriously, the primary function of CAFDI is to represent all Food and Drug Investigators within the parent union (California Statewide Law Enforcement Association). It gives all Food and Drug Investigators a voice in the functioning, direction, and policymaking of CSLEA. CSLEA in turn gives CAFDI a powerful voice in State Government as a whole, and the greater community at large. Most importantly, CAFDI and CSLEA represent all Food and Drug Investigators collectively together with 7,000 other CSLEA members directly to those decision makers who control the rights, fair treatment, wages and benefits, and other job security aspects of your career in Civil Service. This is done on your behalf so you can focus on your family-time and quality of life issues as you work hard and risk your safety and health everyday as a member of the law enforcement community protecting the safety and health of every other citizen and family in California.
The Current Labor Climate
This is no joke…believe it or not, just maintaining the status quo of your wages, benefits, and employment security if a full time job requiring the daily efforts of experienced business and political professionals. There is a very vigorous war going on that needs constant attention. It is between the protectors of your health care, retirement, salary, and all other benefits and those who would strip you of all of it if they had the chance. Look around at the world today and notice the state of other unions and the hardships faced by the American labor force today, you will see almost all of the large industry corporations (even All-Americans like Ford, Chrysler, GM, etc., etc., etc.) yanking away at the pension plans of their lifelong employees, dismantling the union representation forcing the employees to work for lower wages, reduced benefits, more expensive and, in some cases, no health benefits at all. The marketplace is global today and the competition is nothing less than ruthless. Increasing profits and dividends by cutting wages and benefits is la mode du jour worldwide. This is a phenomenon that makes the function of CSLEA even more critical than ever. Your CAFDI is an important and active part of that function and needs your support.
