CSLEA investigators from three agencies uncover $50 million in alleged workers’ compensation insurance fraud

CSLEA-member investigators from three state agencies – Department of Insurance Fraud Division, Employment Development Department, and Franchise Tax Board – have uncovered a combined $50 million in workers’ compensation insurance fraud from two separate investigations. California’s Unemployment Trust Fund is $662,718 richer thanks in part to the bloodhound-like work of CSLEA- and CAFI-member investigators for the state’s Employment Development Department (EDD). The summer fun of jet skiing and water-slide parks has come to a sobering end for a former state employee who was just handed a seven-year sentence for pension fraud, one of the most severe ever handed down. Last December a jury convicted June Ann Lucena, a former correctional officer at Folsom State Prison, on 14 counts of faking injuries in order to qualify for workers’ compensation and state disability.
