Between August 21 and September 29, you should be receiving a ballot from the CalPERS Board of Elections, and CAUSE highly recommends you vote for Howard Schwartz (#2 on the ballot) for a seat on the CalPERS Board of Administration.
More than any other election this year, this one affects your pocketbook the most.
Incumbent board member George Diehr continues to support policies that result in increases in health-care costs to state employees. By comparison, Howard Schwartz has directed his energies toward protecting and improving our pay and benefits. He knows our union and has proved himself a reliable and trustworthy advocate for Unit 7 members.
Howard Schwartz is not an unknown commodity. His biography arguably makes him the most qualified person in the entire state for the position he’s seeking:
• Senior Staff Counsel for the CalPERS legal office
• Former staff and managing attorney for the California State Employees Association for 15 years
• Former chief counsel of the Department of Personnel Administration
