ABC Agents Team Up With ATF and Raid Hayward Bar

Three Bay Area men were arrested on drug and gun charges when agents from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) raided a bar in Hayward March 14, 2013.

"This is a perfect example of some of the important work ABC agents do throughout California," said Alan Barcelona, president of the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA).  CSLEA represents ABC agents, along with nearly 7,000 other law enforcement, public safety and consumer protection professionals in California.

"ABC agents are routinely a part of investigations that involve local and federal agencies that target alcohol, drug and weapons violations," said Barcelona.

According to an ATF press release, agents raided the Campus Club by The Bay Lounge and arrested an employee (David Velasquez, 27)and another man (Levertis Woolfolk, 48),  both felons and suspected of selling guns and drugs at the bar.  They also arrested the bar owner (Sunee Mederios, 45) on state charges for possession and distribution of a controlled substance.

It was determined the establishment's license had been suspended and the owner was selling alcohol without a license.

During an ATF gun trafficking investigation which began in November 2012, agents made undercover purchases of several firearms including two rifles and two hand guns from Velasquez and Woolfolk.  The press release alleges Velasquez conducted the sales of firearms and ecstasy from the club.  Woolfolk is alleged to have sold crystal meth and crack cocaine multiple times to an undercover agent.

"All of this leads to crime and violence in the surrounding neighborhoods and in the community," said Barcelona.  "That's why ABC agents often team up with other agencies, to help make our communities a better and safer place to live."
